What's the craziest thing you ever saw at a zoo? I saw an alpha male lion teabag one of the females.

I went to the National Zoo on Saturday and witnessed the big Alpha Male lion teabag one of the female lions. The female lion was on her back, showing her belly just as any housecat would do. The big alpha male walks up to her and steps right over her face and squats down. That ellicited lots of nervous, uneasy laughter from all the parents, I'm sure all praying that their kids wouldn't ask what the hell was going on. The female lion of course gets pissed at having these two hairy peaches in her face and gets the hell out of there. The male then sat down in her spot with, I gotta say, a look of satisfaction in his face.


That, I gotta say, was the craziest thing I've ever seen at a zoo.

2. Monkeys are known to do all kinds of embarrasing things.

Everything from eating their own poop to using their incredible elastic bodies to take care of themselves.

5. Last time I went to the zoo...

When we were in the primate house, one of the gorillas, obviously male, was doing that thing that every primate (especially humans) does to itself.

Of course, kids were there... "Daddy, what is the monkey doing?" "Uhhhhhh.... He's scratching himself son!"

6. Wolves taking doggie treats from one of the handlers.

7. Two giant tortoises in a real slo-mo "run" at each other

about ten feet apart they lined up and went after each other. When they did "hit" after about two minutes, one of them farted. One of the rottenest smells I ever encountered. Cleared out what was a nice little crowd of about 20 that had stood and watched this slo-mo drama.

8. Saw a couple of mountain lions getting busy

at the Minnesota Zoo one afternoon. Mom and little kid are watching when the festivities begin. Little kid says, "Mommy, what are the kitties doing?" Mom grabs kid by the arm, drags him off, saying, "Come on, let's go look at the timber wolves!"

There was no teabagging, but even so Mom apparently didn't want to explain the birds and the bees and the mountain lions to her kid just then.

then again, it was the SF Zoo.

18. LOL! I used to work at one. I could go on for days!

Had a snake crap in my pocket once.

We had a buffalo who fell madly in love with a tractor and flirted like mad with the thing.

I once helped MY dentist do a root canal on a mountian lion. (No zoo vet available, and this was a long time ago).

We used to throw fruit and veggies into the bear pool and they'd dive for them. It was fun for us all!

One of our teen volunteers foster raised a possum in the hood of her coat. She walked around with him riding along with his little head poking out.

I once had to wrestle a (fortunately small) whitetail buck when someone turned him loose and I stumbled across him in the parking lot. I grabbed his antlers but couldn't let go, and finally my coworkers heard me screaming and rescued me!

I once "met" Ham, one of the chimps that went into space. He was an old man living at the NC zoo but he still knew the sign language they'd taught him--"Okay" and "Not okay".

Like I said, I could go on. It was a great time.

22. My sister and family were at the gorilla section of the zoo in Toronto. They were watching a mother

and baby. All of a sudden the silverback came charging out. The staff moved the crowd away. They spied my 6'5" brother in law and said take your black hat off. Then take off your black fleece jacket. He did. The silverback calmed right down and went away. LOL!
