Fareweel to a' our Scottish fame,
Fareweel our ancient glory;
Fareweel ev'n to the Scottish name,
Sae fam'd in martial story.
Now Sark rins over Solway sands,
An' Tweed rins to the ocean,
To mark where England's province stands-
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

What force or guile could not subdue,
Thro' many warlike ages,
Is wrought now by a coward few,
For hireling traitor's wages.
The English stell we could disdain,
Secure in valour's station;
But English gold has been our bane-
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

O would, or I had seen the day
That Treason thus could sell us,
My auld grey head had lien in clay,
Wi' Bruce and loyal Wallace!
But pith and power, till my last hour,
I'll mak this declaration;
We're bought and sold for English gold-
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

Love this poem, and suggest Jim Malcom's version of it..the deep sense of betrayal echoes out to us doesn't it?

Strongly recommend Flint's entire series about a West VA town picked up and carried to mid Germany in 1632. The members of the United Mine Workers union lead the town and later an ever widening part of Germany in surviving and melding 1990s US ideals and technology with 17th century Germany (and Europe).

I result of the spread of knowlege about the future in the world they came from-- Charles I immediately throws the youngish Oliver Cromwell into the Tower of London and Richelieu starts working to ensure that in this new reality France will become the dominant power in No America. The man who had an illegal marijuana patch in the 1990s becomes the major source of pain remedy for the 17th century.

A tremendously fascinating and fun series!!
