12. Once when a strange dog visited next door, our cats...

...went ballistic. Our tiger male just jumped up onto the screen, claws on both feet and paws splayed out, pitifully meowing to be let in; and our white female just took off up a tree, a good thirty feet to the lowest branch. I often asked her just how she managed that trick, but she sensibly kept quiet about the whole business, while subtly hinting that it was somehow my fault. I never figured out how, but she was an expert on human guilt trips, even by cat standards...
