Why is this scene in so many movies?

"Bad Guy" (usually): BANG! BANG! BANGBANGBANGBANG!
CLICK!

"Bad Guy": I know. I'll throw this empty pistol at him. That will surely stop him. He'll NEVER be able to dodge my deadly and unerring aim."

The BG never thinks that, if he keeps the gun, he just might find some more bullets on a dead guy or wherever.

...instead of just killing the hero, first has to braggingly tell him his entire fiendish plot for world domination, then give him the slightest chance to escape.

What is really engrossing is when a smart character makes all the right moves but so do the adversaries or there are one or two natural events that intervene (not too many!) but it may or may not be enough to triumph and we don't know until the end.

"There's some scary grinding and growling noises coming from the basement. I'm going to go take a look but I'm not even going to bring so much as a flashlight with me."

Shitty writers think it advances the plot when a stupid person gets reeled in while being stupid.

It advances it in the same way as kicking a can down the street compares to a third down pass while facing a sack in the Superbowl.

Apparently screenwriters think this is so gritty that it's original. It's not. It's disgusting.

When I barf I remain as far away from the toilet as possible while still hitting my mark. I’m already sick, but being sick AND smelling stale piss from the rim of the bowl — ain’t happenin. Meanwhile these people are practically climbing into the damned thing. Revolting.

In crime/detective movies, in search for the bad guy, they never turn the lights on when they enter a room. I guess the flashlight can be thrown at the bad guy, but aside from that it doesn't shed much light.

Just watched him in "The Big Sleep".
He walks into a room for the first time and, without looking at it, reaches behind a drape to turn on the light.

And every time I comment on some anomaly in a movie Miz t. will say "IT'S A MOVIE!"
