Guess the book from a detail or two from the story.

Inspired by Red Dog's threads.

1. Won a farm in a hand of poker.

2. Lithuanian immigrant moves to the US (Chicago) with his family.

3. Spans a few generations of families in Florida.

4. A brother was executed for falsely being accused of stealing a cow.

5. A mouse died from very old age at the end.

Mid 1850s. Did you enjoy the book? It sounds interesting.

I'm not familiar with The Yearling. It may fit the description. I guess that could be a flaw with this type of game.

Additional hint: Orange groves and cattle are part of the plot.
