Well, it could have been a lot worse...

WTF? No woman on earth would do that...

Late Tuesday afternoon, here in the San Fernando Valley.

I was out for my Mandatory Health Walk, cutting thru a parking lot behind a big commercial building.

Lying on the ground, I saw something very strange - a woman's purse, half-open, so I could see a lot of stuff inside.

Alarm bells immediately went off in my head. Robbery? Abduction? Mugging? Rape? It's 5:30 PM in a busy parking lot, where people are just getting off work.

Still, I watch a lot of true crime shows, so I know Weird Stuff Happens. Especially here in the City of the Angels...er, Non-Existent Heavenly Flitting Critters. (I'm an atheist.)

A guy came driving toward me. I thought maybe his wife had dropped the purse. Nope, he was just as mystified as me.

Then a young woman pulled out of another parking spot. I pointed to the purse and asked - "Yours?"

Not hers. But now we have 3 totally mystified people staring at this purse in the parking lot.

It was lying near the rear wheel of an SUV with heavily blacked-out "privacy glass" in the windows. Couldn't see inside, so I finally banged on a window with my fist.

After a couple of seconds, a back door opens. Very sheepish, half-undressed young man takes the purse and mutters, "Thanks." Behind him I could see an equally sheepish and half-undressed young woman.

Damn. Those two must have been incredibly...excited.

Just another item in my long personal list of "Reasons Why I Love Los Angeles."

Talking with a woman from Switzerland one day. She remarked, "You Americans! You do everything in your cars." Me, "Yup, from conception to death."
