(12,217 posts)I wasn't afraid of what I'd see, perhaps naively, because our vet is absolutely fantastic. Our Cairn was in for some IV fluids and antibiotics to help with his pancreatitis and accompanying infection. We thought he'd be in overnight, but, in her words, he "recovered spectacularly" when she phoned us at dinner time.
She stayed behind and kept the office open so we could come and get him and he could spend the night at home. Not a bad vet, I'd say.
"Update" for curious dog enthusiasts: Not only did he recover spectacularly in the short term, but is doing very, very well almost a year later. I put it down to maintaining his daily exercise and switching to a homemade diet recommended by the vet. He'll be 11 in the spring, is still spry and active, and looks GREAT.

(34,914 posts)My first kitty had feline herpes virus, which is a godawful respiratory virus. She wound up needing surgery, and developed some complications. Her vet has a mobile set-up, which allowed her to bring my cat home with her overnight to keep an eye on her. Kitty wound up not making it, but it was due to the disease, and definitely not due to lack of care. I can't imagine a vet who would bring her patients home with her abusing them behind closed doors. She probably dances with the healthier ones, too.

(23,082 posts)They lived a couple of doors away from the clinic, and they left him alone in a kennel overnight. They said when they came in after the first night he was "morose". So after that he went home with them at night and walked freely in the clinic during the day, because he was so well behaved.
When he got to their house he climbed up on their bed and laid down right in the middle. They let him sleep there during the night. And during the day he hung out with the vet while he was cleaning cats teeth.
$12/night. Really good deal.
