Well, I just got word that a former boss of mine, Dan, killed himself. His small company took on a lot of debt, trying to grow, and was never able to make it work. They closed their doors last April and went bankrupt. I guess he lost everything. He left a wife and 5 children. His oldest son was at home when Dan shot himself. I guess he had life insurance that would still pay after a suicide and he saw it as the only way out. I hope it's enough for his wife to start over. He was a good guy who just made some bad financial decisions. RIP Dan.

I am really sorry to hear about your former boss, my dear TexasBushwhacker. I hope his family can recover and go on.
May he rest in peace.

(63,221 posts)What a sad story. Nobody should ever have to feel that they have to end their life over money. There should always be a way out from such desperation. RIP Dan.

(20,209 posts)His business was private investigation and security. I have no doubt that he felt having firearms made his family more secure. But anyone can have a bad day, where they think their family will be better off without them. His wife had just started a new job 2 days before. He probably felt disposable. He was 49. I can't help but think that if he hadn't owned a gun, he might still be here. Nothing is as quick and effective as a gun. Nothing.
