instead of one that hasn't? Cats probably would prefer to dig in clean litter rather than a box that's full of poo. Unless, of course, you have a cat who won't bury it, but just leaves it on top of the litter for all to enjoy.

She refused to do all her “business “ in one litter box, so she had two!

My two are a Savannah Cat and a Maine Coon.
Big beasts who can fill a litter box in no time.
For some reason, they mutually decided to use each of the two boxes for a different function.
First time they ever agreed on anything.

I've read that you should have one more litter box than you have cats. I went away for a few days once, so I got a second box. Since then, my cat does one thing in one box and the other in the other.
