I fall for it every damned time. 2 hours and $300 later, I'm making five trips from the garage to empty the trunk.

(51,857 posts)We love it because it limits us to how much we shove into our mouth. One small bag (100 cal).
And, for awhile, frozen breaded tilapia that we would bake and then use for fish taco. On tortilla with salsa and guacamole.

Should have had a big breakfast BEFORE Costco!! Shopping when you're hungry can be DANGEROUS on your pocketbook!

(100,975 posts)but I have to drive for over an hour to get to a Costco. If you live in the boonies, you have to plan out your shopping trips and stock up on stuff it would cost too much to have to get closer in. As a single person, I have only so many things I would need to stock up on. I love their wool socks! I buy three bundles every other year.

(34,031 posts)People buy bananas 80 lbs for $4.00 (5 cents a pound...just to clarify)
One woman and her husband had them peeled, bagged and in the freezer in one hour!!
It would take me months to peel them, a huge freezer...and hours and hours of baking banana bread.

(3,146 posts)Especially for meats. We buy the packages of chuck roast and divide them into 4 smaller roasts. Plus they have 5 packs of 1 lb chubs of lean ground beef. Easy to just pull one out and let it thaw to make some chili or burritos/tacos.
The huge box of single serve mac 'n' cheese cups probably cause an environmental disaster but are so very handy when we're tired and little guy doesn't want what we cooked for dinner.
If you're single with no kids it probably doesn't make much sense to shop at Costco but if you have a family or live out in BFE then it's a good place to stock up.

They sell a wonderful Cauliflower thin crust gluten free pizza that really tastes good too! Quality at Costco is above average and they always accept returns for whatever reason. It was the first and last time I'll ever shop there on a Sunday - Yikes! What a mob, but the cashier said yesterday was very slow because of the heavy rain. Stocking up due to a scheduled spinal surgery and long recuperation coming up where I won't be able to drive or lift for a while. Now I just have to find room to store the stuff.
At least I know if we have a water problem, I'll be able to bathe in Perrier!

We go probably 1-2 times a month. The savings we get pay for the membership cost. The quality of some of the produce, meats and other goods make it a must stop.

(23,612 posts)but I go there to get canned items that I use all the time. Chicken broth, Kirkland canned chicken breast (handiest stuff ever), black beans, tomatoes, Ro-Tel, canned mushrooms and gagunda jars of peanut butter. This stuff all keeps well. I used to buy coffee there until WINCO opened here and all their coffee is $6.99 a pound no matter what kind it is.
Let's see.... the stuff I clean my contact lenses with; supplements; Ibuprofin, or other pain relief. TP, Paper towels I'd love to buy more produce there but we don't use it up fast enough.
I love those big packs of chicken breast too. Each bubble has 2 really huge pieces in it. I split them and grill them and we get two meals. Cut the little sections apart and drop them in the freezer.
We buy that giant jar of pickles. I have a large Tupperware Pickle box which will hold them. Pickles keep well .
If I am going to be doing a LOT of baking, I get butter and eggs there. I think their butter is made by Tillanook - it is really high quality.
And the samples. And the gasoline.
Then there is the rebate check I get every January because I use my Costco Visa there for whatever I buy and the rebate covers my membership and then some.

(2,847 posts)yes, they had a ton of them in the Costco near the Pentagon area when I happened to be there last year. They were very nice sculptural representations of each with a solid white or milk chocolate coating (your choice)- nice detail. I imagine there's a market for those 'welcome new' or 'farewell' employee office occasions - probably would never see them in any other Costco.
I cannot help overindulge on their Kirkland Gin and Korean pork bbq Jerky. Oh - and the 20 oz bag of Skinny Pop, which i cannot resist way overeating, so it is no longer 'skinny' pop. Oh well...bulk me up!

(56,582 posts)They've built a tire center and above ground parking garage there now too. Still no gas, unfortunately, and a high rise luxury apartment building is going up over the whole mall, so nobody's going to be able to afford to live here pretty soon.
