Typically, all this buying and gift giving stimulates me to want to buy something for myself. Hmmmm.... what gift for me?
It was not flashy, but it is something I enjoy everyday. I bought a new set of tires for my car. The old ones still had some tread, so I was given a "trade-in" discount of $80.00. That was cool! I had never heard of a tire trade-in before.
My second self-gift was some LED Christmas lights. It helps us all get through the darkest time of the year.
What did you buy for yourself?

Ok, Im getting myself a planner nothing elaborate, just a simple weekly/monthly calendar to keep up with all the events, appointments, and obligations that are currently tracked with scraps of paper, computer reminders, and Post-It notes.

(26,081 posts)a boho pair of boots. I have weird feet and muscular calves so have a hard time finding nice looking boots that fit. My old male cat ruined my 2 best pair while we were having the house rennovated and it's been 3 years I've been looking for at least 1 nice pair. I finally found one!! Yay!! They look great with my new jeans, so I'm a happy camper.

(23,696 posts)We have one from a tree that we had to take down. It is about 6 inches in diameter and about 3 feet tall. Currently it is propped up against the back of our sofa next to a bookshelf.
Our cats have been clawing the dickens out of it for about 10 years. It has been in our fireplace, under a table, and now next to the shelf.
Every now and then I spritz it with catnip oil

Professional Pro, which has the bowl lift on sale for an amazing $219. Took it home and put it on the counter, tested it out, and took it back.
I found it too heavy and tall. Had to pull it out from under cabinets to use. Just awkward to use.
I got the 4.5 instead. It doesn't have as much power, but easier to use.

It's very easy to setup. Plug it in and follow the instructions to connect it to your network .
The only problem we have is that we have a quota of 50 gigs per 30 days on DirecTV so you cant be streaming all the time. We get another 50 gigs from 2 to 8 am (they call that the bonus quota ) so often we stay up late or wake up early to watch movies.

(9,474 posts)electric adult trike. I have a very bad back and knee, and need surgery, but am a poor surgical risk due to asthma and obesity. I needed something that would allow me to get out of the house and exercise. Decided on the trike because I can manually pedal it or use the motor when I get tired. I thought about a bike, but the trike seemed a safer option. It came ready to ride (after charging}, and even has a huge basket on the back that will hold the dog. Since he and I are both old and worn out, the trike is a perfect solution for both our needs. The only drawback: no snow tires, and we got about 2 ft of snow last week! Looks like I may have to wait until the spring thaw to ride it!

We are traveling to Arizona so most of our $$ will be spent on that.
I also am a year round purchaser of ebooks (many free or 99cents)
Hubby asked for and received a small Kindle Fire and he is delighted with it.
Now we are a 3 Kindle family. I read at night with my original Fire and carry a small basic one around in my purse because you never know when you will have down time. With Fire you can read in the dark; with the other one you have an anti-glare feature.
mahatmakanejeeves
(69,854 posts)I've got three of those, not the current generation, but from about three years back. I carry one with me at all times, including now.
I hate the Fire OS. I know you can jailbreak them, but I never got around to it. I've learned to tolerate the Amazon ads. I download apps from outside sources. I did not sign up at the Amazon app page, as it wanted my credit card number. Anytime you're asked for your credit card number, the concept of "this is free" goes out the window.
Kindle Fire models
Mine must be from the 5th generation. They were going for $39.99 when on sale. I bought my first from Kmart online, my second from ToysЯUs online (gee, it's as if there's some kind of pattern emerging) and my third at a yard sale, new in the box, last summer.

(5,361 posts)Sweeping and mopping have become painful chores due to a back injury, so when I saw these guys on sale for the holidays, I decided to see if they might help. I haven't tried the mopping robot yet (it has good reviews!), but the one that sweeps and vacuums is my new best friend! So far, I'm thinking this was an excellent decision!
dhol82
(9,650 posts)That would kill one of those machines right quick!
Silver Gaia
(5,361 posts)before you use your robot vac. Reviews I've read say that works, but I don't know from personal experience.
I hope you can make something work for you. They are amazing. Before I used mine for the first time, I swept and mopped so it wouldn't have to work so hard. I *thought* my floors were clean. However, the amount of crap it picked up astounded me! It's dust bin was crammed full! I was shocked at how well it worked. My floors stay cleaner for longer periods of time now, too.
ETA: Look for one on sale if you want to try it. I got mine on sale for $150. I thought it would be a good way to try it without investing a fortune, and was pleasantly surprised. Mine is an Ecovacs DEEBOT N79S. It was a best seller on Amazon, and had great reviews, so I figured it was worth a try. The only major thing it doesn't have that more expensive models do is room mapping, and I don't really need that anyway. Good luck!

(5,361 posts)I also got this on sale for $150. It retails at around $169-199 regular price. They make a bigger model that's about a hundred bucks more, but reviews I read said this one is better for cheaper, so I went with it. If you get it, install the app mentioned in the instructions on your phone or tablet because it gives you more control over some settings (like how much water it sprays out). It has 3 basic modes: wet mopping, damp mopping, and dry sweeping (kinda like robotic dust mopping?), and each mode is controlled by the kind of mopping pad you attach. Reviewers also said not to use the disposable mopping pads it comes with unless you are OK with using highly scented chemicals on your floors. You can order washable pads instead, and just use plain warm water. That's what I do. Blue pads are for wet mopping, orange ones are for damp mopping, and white ones for dry sweeping. The pads they sell on Amazon work just fine. It has a battery that you take out and recharge after using. It runs 1 1/2 to 2 hours on a charge. It may take longer than that to mop your floors, but you can buy an extra battery (from iRobot) so you have a fresh battery if you need it. Just keep one charged battery in the robot and the other in the charger, and swap as needed. I'm going to do that. Hope this helps! Good luck!
ETA: I have used it since I made my initial post here, and I like it. It is slower than the vacuum, but that's fine. I had to use the app to tell it to use less water in the wet mopping mode because it used too much water and left streaks when it dried, but the adjustment fixed that. It is sooooo much better than hurting my back!

Instead of having to operate the key for each individual dit or dah, it's connected electrically to a device that will produce a string of dits when one paddle is depressed, and a string of dahs when the other paddle is depressed. One pair was made by Dan Post, and other by Nocona.
My Dan Posts look exactly like this pair. They are the same model:
https://www.thejujubeans.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4427

Sorry, I can't find an online tool to shrink the picture size. When I do, I'll fix this. I can't save the thumbnail.
The Noconas sort of look like this, but the shaft more of a yellow-brown than straight brown:
https://www.pfiwestern.com/nocona-mens-lets-rodeo-testa-pria-square-toe-cowboy-boots-distressed.html

Mine have the squared-off heel that this pair has, and not the cowboy-type heel that the Dan Posts have.
I love two-tone cowboy boots. I'm not that crazy for black cowboy boots, but there they were, so why not?
The Dan Posts are probably from Tennessee; that's where my other pair of Dan Posts are from. The Noconas are hecho en Mexico.

(7,725 posts)Always looked like fun to play. Did you see that video on here a month or so ago about the old time jazz(?) band? The Bass Player was just getting wild on his stand up. Really fun to watch. Appeared to be an easy Bass line for him, and thus the theatrics.
Merrrry Christmas.

(7,725 posts)I try to refrain from buying for myself-although truly tempted, and i have certainly done it in the past-this year I thought a good medium would be something functional. The New Year is so uncertain economically.

(6,586 posts)nice stand mixer before. It's great! It doesn't take up much counter space, it isn't heavy like a Kitchen Aid, and it does a great job with bread dough.
