Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Manager asked the young engineer...

...fresh out of the university, , "And what starting salary were you looking for?"

The engineer said, "In the neighborhood of $100,000 a year, depending on the benefit's package."

The HR Manager said, "Well, what would you say to a package of $200,000 a year, 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a red Mercedes?"

The engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow!!! Are you joking?"

And the HR Manager said, "Of course, ...but you started it."

Ummm...I'm too honest.

I do not think that honesty is a weakness.

I don't fucking care what you think.

" 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary" was exactly my benefit package when I worked for a government funded research lab.

on starting salaries for the particular major. Also some mention of other potential opportunities. Then bring it around and talk about your value to the company and how excited you are about the opportunity.

...major, materials science engineering, start at between $60K and 80K, and should be making 110k after 5 to 10 years, with a BSE. (I want him to go to graduate school though.)

Still the joke is wonderful and it makes a great point. I plan to tell him the joke.

Almost all the interviews in my life, except when I was talking to the owners of companies, started out with the technical people and I didn't get to HR until the very end. I've had interviews that began with me giving a lecture. Usually my salary requirements were known before I got the interview, however.

You said in your app that you have never been arrested, is that true. I said yes that is correct, I’ve never been caught. I got the job.
