Last night I saw Barry Jenkins' "If Beale Street Could Talk"

Going in I barely knew what the movie was about. Great story, great performances, and powerful.

If you're looking for a good movie this weekend, this is it.

1. I like the cast, but I too can't tell what it is about from the promos.

The "buzz" seems to be quite good, so glad to hear you thought so too.

I did find out it was based on a story by James Baldwin. Its a love story, with a lot of pain.

6. Thanks but duh for me. Why I didn't connect it with James Baldwin is beyond me...

I too have seen the commercials and wondered, "what's it about?" Thanks again! Much appreciated!

Regina King stood out in an absolutely stellar cast - she was astonishing.

As a movie, though, it dragged, in my opinion (note: I'm sure lots of people will disagree). It was beautiful, I liked it while I was watching it, and I'm sure the pacing was intentional, but I think it needed some energy here and there.

I got used to the change in "voice" and movement back in forth through time after a while, but it was a little jarring at first.
