(33,464 posts)They lied about Bosco.
"Bosco gives me iron, and sunshine Vitamin D.. Oh, I love Bosco, that's the drink for me!"
All Bosco had was sugar, corn syrup & cocoa powder.
The iron and vitamin D came from the milk
But I loved the stuff!

(16,168 posts)Laughing Sal was guaranteed to make you laugh. A friend of mine's father knew the owner and he took over the whole place one evening for a birthday party for her.
I used to take ice skating lessons at Sutro's when I was very young. And I remember swimming in Fleishacker pool.
All these things are gone now, except in our memories. And now here on DU!

(33,464 posts)I loved looking at all the antique "penny arcade" games they had, some of which still worked.
Also, they had a Tucker car, (1947 Tucker, I think)
I remember the Tom Thumb exhibit too.
I loved that place.
That skating rink originally was one of the larger pools when it was "Sutro Baths"..which was way before my time.
If you were upstairs, you could look through the windows & see the empty pools from Sutro Baths.

(33,464 posts)I remember when those commercials started.
McDonalds burgers were always already cooked & ready to be sold.
Burger King promised to sell burgers that only had what you wanted on them, and nothing more.
I hate onions and relish, so I did go to Burger King once in a while back when I was much younger.
I never did like McDonalds much, (although my kids did), except for the French Fries.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
