That won't work for long...

they'll learn to push things off shelves! When I was a teenager, we had a cat who would walk along a shelf that was on the wall kind of over my bed. I didn't have a lot of choice but to keep some things on it. If I overslept or someone else forgot to check his dish, he'd get up on the shelf and start pushing things off starting near my feet and working his way up to my head. Or he'd jump on my legs from the shelf.
