5. It's ice crystals that formed on top of a frozen lake

The entire lake is covered with them. They are pretty cool. I have no idea how they form. The lake bottom is maybe a foot down in this picture, but it doesn't seem to make a difference how deep it is; the crystals are uniform across the entire surface of the lake.

The only problem with the lake being frozen over is that my dog really wants to dip her belly in the water and can't.

10. Two days ago there was a small stretch of water that was not frozen

Maybe from the edge to eight feet out. She plodded out there and got her belly wet. I just don't get it. She's a rottie/lab mix. It's not like she has a thick coat or double coat. After she got her belly wet, she ran around in 20 degrees just as happy as could be.

13. Very cool!

I opened the front door one day last week and ice crystals were covering the glass on the inside of the storm door. The formations were so pretty.

Did you see the thread yesterday about the ghost apples made of ice? It was really neat!

16. That's interesting.

I have a whole catalog of snow and hoarfrost pictures. Ice and snow are fun to work with. In my area, we missed the first week of the nasty cold but it showed up a week ago over here. Got all the way up to +3F today, for about forty minutes. If I felt like going outside, I'd be taking pictures of that kind of stuff.
