presentation. What a shame. She certainly deserved a mention. She was a breast cancer survivor from decades ago. Disappointing.

(34,136 posts)When I was at college in 1970 it was shown on campus. My mother came to visit so she could see it since she had missed it in the theaters. The house that the family lived in in real life had belonged to some of my mother's cousins. During the Depression when my grandfather couldn't find work, Mom's family lived with her cousins in that house for a couple of years. So Mom was really thrilled to see it in the movie.
Mom mostly grew up in Marion, Perry County, Alabama, north of Selma where the movie was made. Her grandfather retired to Selma and had a big house on River Street. After he died several of his unmarried or widowed children shared that house until the last of them passed away. I remember crossing over the Pettus Bridge, turning left and driving a half dozen blocks to get to that house. I don't think that is the house in the movie but it was probably one of the cousins in that branch of the family who took Mom's family in when they needed help.
