I haven't vomited since 1973...until this morning.

The last time I threw up I was in Ensenada, Mexico, shooting back 25 cent Tequila Sunrises. I certainly deserved it then; I was a very stupid kid.

I haven't had a tequila sunrise in probably 30 years.

I didn't do anything other than eat dinner.

I had nasty diarrhea all night.

This morning I threw up.

It's appropriate, I think, that it happened again during the Trump administration.

The irony is that over in the E&E section last night I completed a post involving (partially) the chemistry of bismuth.

A Battery Which Desalinates Water In Charging and Discharging.

This morning, it appears, according to my wife who knows all about vomiting - she's married to me after all - I should drink a bismuth suspension; Pepto-Bismol.

She's very sympathetic, and nicely brought medicine and water.

I'm actually feeling better since throwing up.

2. Recently had similar experience

First time in nearly thirty years. Took nearly four days for bug to run its course. In my case, I know the cause. Grandchild brought it home from daycare, gave it to mother, to grandmother, and from her to me. Widespread outbreak in that area; many schools closed as a result.

PB and similar meds will help, but probably not completely.

3. The Pepto-Bismol helped; no more vomiting, but some nausea.

I'm staying home from work this morning. I haven't been this sick in years. I slept almost 24 hours. I hope it's not contagious. My son is home with me on his spring break and I sure don't want to get him sick. This is the most intense semester he's had; he's doing well, but this thing can really throw a kink.

My joke is now that I'll have to become a super centenarian to match my previous record for not vomiting.

About three days from exposure to onset. It took nearly four days each before the symptoms relented. The first two days were intense. I lost right at ten pounds, have since gained about half back. Don't recommend this for weight loss.

About half the people I know who were exposed got the bug, so maybe your son can avoid it.

5. I'm guessing it's norovirus.

I'm washing my hands a lot.

I wanted to leaf through my son's Chemical Engineering text book, and went out of my way to wash and wash and wash.

I missed the reference.

I never watched the Seinfeld show, and what I know of it, I got through osmosis.

I'm constantly wiping down my work desk with disinfectant and cleaning my hands with Purell. Glad you're better!

16. I think it's somewhat unusual.

I recall that when I was first living with my wife, before we were married, I woke up to the sound of her puking.

I was horrified and wanted to know if she thought she needed medical attention.

She looked at me like I was crazy and said, "go back to sleep, I'm just throwing up."

That's when I learned it was relatively normal for some people to throw up.

I caused her to throw up another time. I'm a lacto-vegetarian and she isn't. One night we were camping with her sister and they decided they wanted chicken. I said, "Oh, I remember how to make chicken. I did it a lot when I was a kid. I'll make it for you ladies."

Well I made the chicken; in the dark; by the light of a campfire.

Except, it appears I really didn't remember how to make chicken; it had been so many years...

They both threw up after eating my, um, "cooking."

My wife throws up probably one or two times a year from one thing or another. (She will never let me make chicken again.) I no longer scream wondering if she needs a doctor. I just bring her a big bowl.

I have to say that the experience of throwing up was nowhere near as bad as I imagined it would be. Somehow, even without experience, I knew I would do so, and got to the porcelain throne in time. It sucked throughout the experience, four huge heaves, and it tasted bad, but I actually lived through the experience and actually felt better afterwards.

My previous experience with throwing up all involved alcohol, and frankly my memory is a little hazy on what it must have been like, since I was, um, drunk when it happened

I might have a glass of wine or a beer these days, but I very, very, very rarely drink hard liquor.

In any case, it's easier to contemplate a thing if you've experienced it. My fear of vomiting was a little over the top. Those 45 years I hated to even think of it. If it happens next week, though, I'll just shrug it off.
