I would expect them to act that way. They usually hang around unless they need to protect the sheep. The border collie keeps circling waiting for a job to do.

Another livestock guardian dog. If a coyote showed up, he'd be right on it. Leave herding to the collies.

Half Great Pyrenees and Half Anatolian shepherd. I have one just like the one in the video. Wonderful, smart, and stubborn! Mine barks at the perimeter of our big yard about every 15-20 minutes to tell the wolves/coyotes to keep away!

As you said, they do not herd but are high energy protectors.

The dog had the laid back air of a guardian dog. My family is into herders, but these are wonderful dogs as well. As you said great to have around in coyote country.
