From a distance it's hard to tell a roo from a tussock of dried grass, they're almost the same colour.

This was taken only a couple of kms from my place, walking down to the beach. I'm in a small town, so early mornings there's often a roo or two wandering the streets.

The OP pic was yesterday, this is on a different track this morning. Willie (he's not mine) is short, tubby, 13 years old and extremely aspirational. The roos took off as soon as I took this pic.
