(43,198 posts)There was one about 5 minutes from the swimming pool my family would go to every day during the summer. So every once in a while, we would head on other there after a swim.
Don't remember a whole lot about the food other than it was more or less similar to Taco Bell, but I have some good memories associated with the place. I haven't seen one in years, though.

(2,121 posts)Get the taco grande, a hard corn taco nestled in a flour tortilla with re-fried beans.
Got me through late nights in college, as they were open until 2 AM.

(15,805 posts)Most fast food tacos are mostly tortilla shell and too scrimpy on the fillings. They give you a microscopic bit of greasy meat, a few shreds of tasteless cheese, a little bit of chopped tomatoes and some lettuce, and for the price, a hamburger is a better deal. There are some really tasty and authentic tacos to be had at little mom & pop taco stands, and I'll buy them occasionally, but I'm not keen of fast food overall.
Still prefer to make my own tacos where the meat is seasoned the way we like it, and all the fillings are set out a la carte so everyone can load up their tacos anyway they want.

(15,149 posts)So it didn't matter what anyone liked, they could build their own. I made sure the beans and rice were all vegetarian too.
I also don't use the packaged taco seasoning. I brown the meat (ground beef or cut up chicken) and then add my own seasoning (cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, oregano, s&p) and about 8 oz. of V8 juice. Let it reduce and it's wonderful!

(15,805 posts)When I invite a crowd over for our world famous All You Can Eat Taco Bar, I like to set out as many toppings as I can think of, but invariably someone will ask for the one item I didn't buy. Someone asked for Greek yogurt once, not on my short list of Mexican foods, but I already had regular sour cream, and Crema Salvadorena, which I recommended she try as a fair substitute with its robust tangy flavor. She actually liked it better, she told me.
Makes me hungry! Now I have a hankering for some overstuffed tacos and a bowl of Spicy Refried Beans with cheese and Tomatillo Salsa... drool...
