1. I rescued a dog that was way overweight

Wasn't as bad as this one, but he weighed 140lbs and as a border collie that's way too big. Prior to getting him I had owned several border collies, but none over 50lbs. It took about a year and a half, but I got him down to 80lbs which is still huge for a border collie, but a normal weight for him according to the vet. He's gone now and I miss him all the time. Here he is next to my other border collie:

3. How in the f**k does someone

get a dog that fat? I see small cage and lots of food and no exercise at all. It just blws my mind. I have worked professionally with dogs most of my life and I still have a hard time fully contemplating that.

My dogs have never been fat. No way in hell are they going to be overweight.

6. I went to a shelter to look at a dog for adoption

They showed me an extremely nice white GSD who was really fat. They told me he had already lost something like 80 lbs since he had been there (but needed to lose another 80). They called him the "Walking Coffee Table". What I noticed was that he had very bad manners. He was grabby and would gnaw on your hand to get attention. I think his previous owners spoiled the hell out of him.

4. When I was waiting with my dog at the vet recently, a couple came in with a chocolate lab

The dog looked quite overweight to me - and I heard the weight when s/he was weighed in and that pup weighed more than me! It was obvious that the couple cares about the dog so I'm hoping that the vet brought it up.
