Does anyone besides me

miss being able to slam down an old fashioned phone when ending some conversation
where someone pisses you off?

I was watching an old Marx Brothers comedy "A Day At The Races" and some guy
was so frustrated with his conversation with Groucho he SLAMMED the phone down.
I told my wife that "damn I miss being able to do that anymore" and I was going to
check in with you good folks to see if any of you agree. Was such a good and safe
release of anger back in the day ... and so much safer than going to get your gun.

Yes. It's not nearly as satisfying to just push the disconnect button on a cell phone. The Velveteen Ocelot Apr 2019 #10

I still have a land line and once slammed it down so hard I knocked the whole phone down off the wall after holding for my cable company over 45 minutes. I didn't regret it.

And I also miss punching a number in with real buttons. These flat screen cellphones are just so sterile.

The other is a reliable signal in a location where I might get one bar - just enough for my cell phone to connect but not enough to have a conversation. Plus when the cell towers get knocked out after a hurricane, I still have service!

but I can understand why others might.

However, I get a bit crazed when someone in a movie or TV show is talking on a cell phone, the other person hangs up and they get a dial tone. Heck, I bet a lot of young people today who have only ever used a mobile phone haven't a clue what a dial tone even is.

Back when the phone company first changed over to dial phones from all calls being placed through an operator, they ran ads that were shown in movie theaters to teach people what to do. It's instructive to do an internet search to find some of those old ads.

You could drop it off a cliff, plug it in and make a phone call.

Best phone for slamming the handset ever made!
