In the shower I use baby oil gel(Johnson & Johnson) on my very dry skin while my skin is wet and I get out of the shower and dry off. Don't rinse off the oil!
It's wonderful and doesn't feel greasy...

(17,984 posts)I've met people who used regular old olive oil after swimming in the ocean (and tried it myself). But I suspect baby oil smells better.

(10,227 posts)a miracle that would help with my dry, flaky skin. I am almost 70 and the best thing I have ever found is Cetaphil lotion. Believe me, I have tried just about every single thing on the market. This stuff is a bit pricey, but it has eliminated the use of topical steroids for me. I LOVE IT!

(42 posts)In the winter months my hands and fingers get so dry that they bleed. I've tried so many different types of creams, lotions and medicines and nothing has really helped. He told me to get the Cetaphil. Honestly I didn't think it was that much more expensive than any of the other products I've tried through the years and it did help a lot, plus it is really rich and creamy. It feels so good going on and my skin really cleared up. As someone who suffers terribly with dry skin, I really recommend this one.

(23,581 posts)I found it works great. My legs get so itchy in the winter it drives me crazy. Cetaphil seems to work wonders.

(33,597 posts)Everyone I worked with had terrible cracked skin on their hands. I was taking 6 fish oil pills a day(filtered for mercury) every day and had no problems.

(6,709 posts)It sits on the skin, can't be absorbed, can clog pores, can seal in bacteria, prevents loss of skin moisture...but can't add to it--unlike natural oils like coconut, olive, almond, Shea butter, which can also provide vitamins.
It is cheap though.

(36,877 posts)However, some baby oils are made from various vegetable oils. I'm not sure they are any more effective or safer. Unlike mineral oil, vegetable oils are subject to rancidity so shelf life may be limited.
