She's built the next at the back corner of the house, so she's not disturbed by much, save for me taking pictures. At my brother's, a robin built a nest on the porch light, so he's coming and going through the garage, for the duration.

I kept seeing a swallow dive bomb my front door for several days before I realized she'd quite literally nested on the front door. I will have to try to find my photo, but for weeks, I gently opened the door to exit--always checking to make sure 'MOM" wasn't there. The day the two nestlings flew away, I was really saddened, but mission accomplished, Mom!

(43,049 posts)noticing a wren flying around every time I opened the door. Then I noticed the nest in the wreath and two tiny chicks.
When they flew away, what a pain cleaning the birdshit off the door.
(I have pix somewhere, too.)

(70,273 posts)used often as it leads to the indoors from the garage. It stayed their babies could fly. It did not mind us at all, even with the lights coming on and off and the garage door continuously opening and closing.

(26,288 posts)Sadly, I just found an ejected egg, from a nest in a pine tree, in my front yard. It's already cold, so nothing to be done. Kind of a bummer thing to find, on a Saturday morning.

(26,288 posts)I have feeders in the tree so there are always lots and lots of birds, including Blue Jays.
The next thing for me to watch for are baby bunnies. They have a habit of darting out in front of the mower. I'm going to do a double check, around the lot, to make sure there aren't any little bunny nests burrowed beneath the lawn.
In the past, I've managed to let them out maneuver me.

(15,535 posts)on our house is a light right next to the backdoor - which we open and close a dozen or more times a day. We keep an eye out for evidence of a nest and take them down. It is unlikely that a bird family would do well with the level of stress they would experience with dog and us disturbing their nest so many times per day.

(29,695 posts)Is it ok to knock down their nest when theyre finishing having babies??? I heard it takes a lot of energy to build a nest......I love watching them build it from scratch so to speak, it should I leave it up or is it ok to knock it down??

(81,421 posts)Id say you got a little bit o blessing there! Enjoy the rollout! Youll soon be a step-mom to new hatchlings that will start with a feeble chirp and then grow strong - and much louder!
And if youre lucky enough to be there watching when theyre old enough to leave the nest, youll feel some genuinely bittersweet feelings. Proud of them for finding their own wings, venturing out on their own. Amazed at this story you were able to witness, personally. A deeper sense of connection - to life, to Nature, to continuity. And yes, sadness, too. That your little feather babies have grown up and moved away.
But even then, the story may not be over. Not sure about the breed of bird here, but some breeds return to the nest to lay eggs of their own. That happened to us for four straight years - with little Black Phoebes. We had five sets of hatchlings in four years! I dont know how long they live but either they returned to the same nest, or their offspring did.

Down a beautiful country lane, we pulled up beside a small red post box. The postman had placed a sign on it: Please use another post box. A bird is using this one for her nest. I doubt I would see that in America.

(26,288 posts)It's built on the eaves trough down spout.
I wish a bird would build a nest on the one that's visible from the den window.
