DU Album of the Day: "My I'm Large" The Bobs
For afcionados of a cappella groups, The Bobs are legendary, and this might be their most legendary album. By turns hilarious, poignant, wry and even workmanlike (but in a good way), The Bobs are in the best tradition of the troubadour. Their songs cover old favorites and classics (You Really Got a Hold on Me and Little Red Riding Hood), love gone right and horribly, amusingly wrong (Please Let Me Be Your Third World Country, the anthem for anyone who's ever gotten involved with the hot babe from the demonstration only to find out that's all she's interested in, and the doomed desperation attendant on recapturing that fleeting instant of contact).
There's a wide range of topics and the amazing ability of the performers to weave a vocal tapestry on which to work their magic has to be heard multiple times to fully appreciate. Who else could do a backing fill using the word "hematoma"? Only The Bobs.
