That said, YouTube is a gem of an education (I'm loving Dame Mary BEARD on the Romans) .

1. Saw this and it takes the gloss off

I know it’s all true, but sure puts a damper on the romance scenes and walking around the magnificent hall of mirrors. Consider that the real peeps were used to bad smells masked in perfume and also that the actors are all showered up, wearing clean finery, mouthwashes between scenes, and those wigs the two male leads wear are rotated between cleanings. Really wish I had such wigs in my younger days, dimensional and lustrous colors.
