Wow, this SNL sketch cuts deep. Real deep. Deeper than the writers even know.

We convince ourselves to stay in shitty jobs or relationships and that a vacation will fix everything. It doesn't. Pleasure and happiness are not the same thing. Happiness is a sustatined state of being content no matter where you are.

One of the funniest and well written things they have done in a while. There is definitely an underlying truth to the bit.

I read a travel blog post about a place that I went to and loved. I had an amazing time there. But the woman who wrote the post had non-stop complaints and advised against visiting there. I had some good chuckles reading it. Attitude makes all the difference. Her unhappiness probably had more to do with her own life back home than the place she was visiting. One of her complaints was that too many American tourists were there.

We Can: Take you to the Italian Riviera.

We Cannot: Make you feel comfortable in a bathing suit.

Gotta own your hang ups, dudes.

Happiness is a reaction to outside stimulus.
It is environmental.
You can literally be happy one second, sad the next, and happy again the next.

What is sustainable is joy.
Joy comes from within; from you holy spirit.
It has no direct bearing on your personal, or family situation.
It has to do with you spiritual situation.
It is powered by God's love and your ability to receive, embrace, and use God's love in your life.

The pursuit of happiness is why there are so many unhappy people.
They want happiness to sustain them, but it can't. And so they keep looking for their next happiness fix, only to find it doesn't carry them forward in life.

I'm not saying you shouldn't pursue happiness, but don't make it you goal. It will always disappoint you.
Happiness will abandon you with the first storm clouds that come into your life.
Joy is love based and can, if you let it, carry you through all those bad times so you can more fully enJOY the good times.

than when I was being raised by a fundamentalist mother and step-asshole in a baptist church.

The constant barrage of guilt, fear, shame and intimidation have had lingering effects but I'm much happier outside that whole world.

Because it appears to be based around the arbitrary redefinition of human emotional concepts as a means for your conscious mind to continue believing things your subconscious mind rejected long ago.

I get that you're scared, unwilling to question your beliefs, or even consider that your beliefs might need to be questioned, but that doesn't excuse your lack of self-awareness, dissonant belief structure, or make those beliefs true.

I think most of his fans are junior high school boys.

I loved the sketch, and the song at the end, just like many of his other non-fans.

Anyone who can write the Hanukkah Song, the Thanksgiving Song and the Chris Farley Song is ok in my book.

And Opera Man! ❤️
