Hey

My first discussion thread whoop whoop!

I'm Metalmom, which to me means I have a child who is a heavy metal musician. His very first concert was in vitro to hear the fantastic sounds of Scorpions, Metallica and Van Halen at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas TX. What a concert it was!

Glad to be here at DU. How about sharing some concert memories with me.

Monsters of Rock! And I do believe it was a nationwide tour. Did you get to go? Van Halen had just come out with OU812 I think.

It’s a nice place to share music.

Just a note MM would, for most of us, be a very long standing DUer. Don’t think MM cares. But just so ya know.

With Boston and Heart at McNichols Arena in Denver.

The onstage costume contest was won by a guy who had constructed a gigantic, hooded executioner torso which he wore on his shoulders... holding a sword in one hand and a platter in the other, thus giving the impression that the celebrant's head was detached and resting on the platter.

A 12 ft. tall blue-veined erection was also a crowd favorite, but was stiffed by the panel of judges.

Local TV clown Blinky was the celebrity judge. His costume was brilliant - no makeup.

Don't get me started.

Now tell the truth, did you get the impression that Blinky was a drunken lout? I swear you could see the five o'clock shadow through the makeup, and he always had heavy eyelids. As a kid I fantasized I could smell the alcohol through the TV screen.

I grew up on Bozo in Chicago, so there was bound to be a dropoff. Ol' Boze could really work a crowd... the kiddies were laughing, and the adults were cracking up, too, but at something else... a pun or double entendre. Bozo was working on multiple frequencies.

I recall thinking Blinky was a bit of a creep, and not gentle or nice. Not sure about the booze, though I see what you mean. His rendition of "Happy Burfday", with his manic, staccato cadence, was revolting.

Disturbed & Drowning Pool, Halloween at House of Blues in Chicago

What an incredible show. There were bodies flying through the air when Disturbed played Droppin' Plates. The entire place was one big mosh pit from the time Drowning Pool went on stage until Disturbed went off stage
