For DU New Yorkers: do you remember "Ford to city: drop dead"?

It was the headline in the NY Daily News (a tabloid) when Pres. Ford refused to help bail out NYC during its financial crisis.

What are your memories of that:

(I lived in NYC at the time). New York City ultimately worked with the government of the State of New York and a plan was arranged so no federal bailout was necessary.

is jealousy and I think it is that and also the NYC bluster. I remember my first encounter with the NYC subway

My son and his family live on the LES and love it. He is a prosecutor in the office of the Brooklyn DA.
