A Trio of Outdoor Cats Are Taken by Surprise When a Plush Puppy Starts Meowing at Them

The cooperative team of outdoor cats who defended their human’s yard from an incoming real dog, were a little less brave when it came to a plush puppy that was meowing like a kitten. Their human strategically placed the stuffed toy in different places around the yard with the sound of mewling kittens constantly playing on a phone in the background. The cats were first cautious, then confused and then finally curious.

up a dog once, and he was declawed. A dog was chasing him and he went up a sapling tree and then dropped down on the dog's back like a rodeo rider and then used his rear paws to scratch the dog. the dog headed for home and he jumped off the dog's back and walked SLOWLY home. I could hear him say "I'm bad, I'm bad" and when he got inside our property line he sat down. Didn't even look over his shoulder. I could hear him say "Just try to attack me on my own property".

Our new neighbor came over to introduce himself and brought his dog with him. We warned him to watch his dog around our cat and his response was, "I'm a veternarian - if my dog hurts your cat, I'll sew him up for free." We sort of shrugged and then started talking.

My husband's cat, Merlin, a big long haired black cat with vampire teeth and claws that would not retract all the way, came up to the door as we were chatting. He puffed up at the first sight of the dog, and stood his ground. The dog went over to sniff the cat - major mistake. Merlin launched himself at the dog, landing with his teeth into the base of the skull, front claws trying to rip the dog's ears off, and back claws tearing at the dog's eyes.

It took my husband three tries to take the cat off the dog and hold on long enough for the new neighbor to get the dog back into his truck and leave. My husband had huge scratches all over him, arms, chest, and face.

The neighbor lived next door for over ten years. We never saw that dog - or any other dog from that direction - during the entire time. The neighbor never mentioned his dog, or "sewing up" our cat, ever, not once.

the irony of my story is that we got the cat because his owners were having a baby and thought that the cat would harm it. The cat probably would have protected the baby, not hurt it. We have a handicapped child and he would get up on her bed and play a game with her. And he cuddled her back (scoliosis) the first night we had him. He must have sensed her back hurt and his warmth would comfort her. Loved that cat!!!
