"Steve Mnuchin's Father Just Blew $91 Million on a Stainless Steel Rabbit

That Doesn't Even Vibrate"

https://www.theroot.com/treasury-secretary-steve-mnuchin-s-father-just-blew-91-1834811992

[Steve Mnuchin's] dad just blew $91 million on a fucking stainless steel rabbit and not even the kind of rabbit that women enjoy.

According to Bloomberg, Mnuchin’s papa, art dealer Bob Mnuchin, opened his wallet all the way up to buy the Jeff Koons creation at Christie’s auction house, making it the largest payout for a living artist.

Mnuchin’s father claims that he made the purchase on behalf of a client but that’s art talk for “don’t break into my house looking for the stainless steel rabbit because it won’t be there.”

Good thing his kid works for the Treasury...surely, he can just print more (and don't call me "Shirley&quot .

I like the balloon sculptures better. You gotta admit these are interesting (and very shiny):

On the other hand, I do feel where you're coming from. This doesn't reflect the real value of art. It only reflects dense wealthy people's desire to outbid each other in a display of conspicuous consumption.

I think your comments summed it up nicely.

When I think of what good $91,000,000 could do, the extravagance of buying something like that appalls me, even if it's really nothing to do with me.

I knew a Boulder artist who varnished cat shit and put it back in the cat food can. Worth is surely a personal matter.

Did you see that NCAR architect I.M. Pei has died at 102? I lived with that building in view for upwards of 30 years.

I knew he died, though. For me, NCAR's fame derives from the scenes in Sleeper with the huge data tape spools.

The orgasmatron scene still makes me larf. I think the stucco lenticular house was an optometrist's office on N. B'way, though I might be mistaken.

My parents had friends who lived next door to the Sleeper house. I think they got invited over once in awhile. Nowadays I doubt many people know that it's from the movie. We moved there back in 1981, so it was still a relatively recent movie.

Of course he's Mnuchin's father. Good god. The corruption.

Betsy De Vos, Ben Carson and Steve Mnuchin walk into a bar. Everyone leaves.
