(365 posts)His name was Kirby, and he lived with us for at least 5 to 7 years. My son bought him through the mail, and and he was about 5 inches in length when we got him. My husband built him a beautiful cage, but we often let him sit in our ficus tree in the house and just climb around. I would take him outside with me when I gardened and let him walk/hang around on small trees (so he couldn't get away). We really enjoyed him as a pet, other than the dozens and dozens of trips to the pet store to buy crickets and mealworms.

I ordered a "chameleon" through the mail when I was a kid. He was actually a little anole. His name was Hogan. My mom made him a home our of an oatmeal box, but he frequently hung out on our kitchen curtains. I took him to school a few times, hidden under my collar. The other kids thought he was way cool, and the teacher never knew.
A lot more fun than the sea monkeys.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
