Employees at a Georgia Home Depot banded together to build a walker for the child of a customer whose insurance wouldnt cover it, according to KFSM News.
Christian Williams Moores son Logan has hypotonia, making walking without assistance difficult, according to the news outlet. Moore, concerned the familys insurance wouldnt cover a walker, visited the store to buy components to make one out of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, piping.
"My store manager heard about this and we went over to them looked at their plans and said we got this so we started putting it together told the family to go and enjoy ice cream and come back in a hour," Jeffrey Anderson told the news outlet. "Other associates started jumping in and when the family came back it was done."
"Everyone was crying to see Logan walk around with the biggest smile on his face and when the family tried to pay us we said, No way this one is on us,'" Anderson added.

(6,008 posts)... but the appropriate response should be rage. What is wrong with the healthcare in this country that parents can't afford to get a walker for their child. Republicans care more for a barely differentiated mass of cells than they do for a toddler. As far as they're concerned, as soon as you're out of the womb, you should be pulling yourself up by your bootiestraps.

(18,672 posts)In a sane society where wealth is abundant, no one should have to scramble for resources and ideas to provide for their children what they pay insurance to provide. Healthcare should not be for-profit. No one should have to go to a hardware store to construct a makeshift walker, and no one should have to open up a Go Fund Me page to pay for health services. It's beyond shameful and the American people need to ensure our tax dollars benefit the many, not benefit the uber wealthy or towards making mass weapons of war.
On the other hand, I love reading stories where people help each other without expecting anything in return. This was a wonderful thing these people did.

(11,906 posts)but as you said, this should not have been necessary. We need comprehensive Medicare for All. If you agree, please contact Nancy Pelosi's office and ask her to support it.

(37,648 posts)How is that possible? Those wheels blow me away. The design is great. The front part goes up a bit to the curve, keeping the tykes little hands from sliding forward, and there's a bar in the back to help keep him from falling backward, and for stability. Great design!
What an adorable little boy!
