Anyone know of a plane tracking app?

When I was in Turkey, our host had an app on his phone the let him aim the phone at a plane in flight, and it told him what the flight number was, what the airline was, the destination, etc. I haven't been able to find one here in the U.S. Maybe it's a security thing?
