What are the variations of the red, white and blue American flag?

I'm thinking specifically of the white stars aligned in the shape of a star. So, obviously, not 50 stars to represent 50 states.

It has changed over the decades, most especially, but not exclusively, because of the practice of incorporating as many stars as there are states. Are you asking about historical versions?

4. Sounds like you are seeing some of the historical 'Great Star' flags.

None were ever officially adopted, but many were used through the years (mostly in the 1800's).

I think it looks like the Lincoln mourning flag. The first one. I'll have to take a better look.
