after their name. I neither understood it as a little kid nor now. It seems it doesn't matter what someone did, whatever, it always seems vitally important to MSM to attach an age to every single persons name. I'm not being sensitive, just curious what others think ... BTW, I'm 118!

There are cases where age seems to provide context. For example, death, a crime, major accomplishment, or something stupid it might help understand if the person is 10, 20, 40 or 80.
Someone in a postion who says something, a witness, probably half of stories or more age doesnt matter to me.
Maybe thats agist, but knowing whether someone is 10,40 or 80 helps me figure out someones mental state. Id be fine with youth, middle aged and old.

(67,108 posts)string of names in an article for something ... maybe eight names or so, and after each name was their age. I just thought it was laughable. Yep, I can see where it's really important sometimes depending what it is ...

(55,445 posts)was home addresses were always listed in the obituaries... And since the time+day of the funeral services were also printed, this was a free ticket screaming "PLEASE BURGLE THIS HOUSE DURING THE FUNERAL" to criminals...
Of course now we don't say "5150 Geralmar Boulevard", we say "The 5000 block of Geralmar Boulevard".... And even that is being used less and less often, except when describing the location of a serious crime or a fire.
(FWIW, people interviewed have always been able to opt out of giving their name, age address, etc.)
