This is NOT Zach Galfinaikis, it's Robert Redford from the 1972 film Jeremiah Johnson. I'm not a huge fan of Zach G, but always thought it was him. The movies I remember Redford from are without facial hair at all - save the mustache in Butch & Sundance - The Natural, The Way We Were, Barefoot in the Park, Legal Eagles, All the President's Men, etc.
Never even heard of Jeremiah Johnson until today - I was 6 at the end of 1972, so it was probably not a good movie for a 5 1/2 year old.

(62,444 posts)It wasnt the worst movie of 1972.
But that aint saying much.
If you like great outdoors movies, Deliverance was the other option.

(56,840 posts)though, not Jeremiah Johnson until today. The actor looks too bulky to be Redford, which is why I had always assumed it was Zach G

(34,368 posts)Maybe not a great work of art but entertaining. I have seen it several times, still like it quite a lot. I don't see a strong resemblance here but I guess it must be close enough.

(10,487 posts)It's not The Sting, but it's pretty good. Probably how Redford fell in love w/ Sundance.

(7,855 posts)Way way back, in the early days of pay TV (what we called cable back then), before there was HBO, there was a movie channel called "channel 100." It sounds pretty quaint now - only 100 channels?
We had channel 100 for a while and it played the same movies over and over and over. I must have seen Jeremiah Johnson 20 times. I recognized the meme right off.
I think that Zach G would be flattered.

(73,712 posts)and, it seems, plenty of other people based on the article I saw yesterday.
I've seen a bunch of Redford movies and never heard of that one, nor ever thought it could be him.

(35,683 posts)It was during the time of making this movie that Robert Redford fell in love with Idaho. By that point in his career he already had some money in the bank, so he bought his acreage in Idaho and named it Sundance.

(56,840 posts)but, I had never heard of it until yesterday, even though I've seen a ton of Redford movies over the years.
I turned 6 at the end of 1972 and my brother turned 2 at the beginning of 1972, so I doubt it was a movie that was on my parent's list to see for us as kids at the time.
