Guess what, I'm alive!

My computer died some months ago, and it's taken me this long to save up the money for a replacement. Damn all fixed incomes. Worse yet, I haven't been able to read any news since last October Is the Republic still standing?

I'm sure you all missed me greatly.

...and the answer is yes, but by its fingernails...rather like Harold Lloyd in "Safety Last", hanging from the clock. Or maybe Cary Grant, hanging from George Washington's nose in "North By Northwest". We can but hope...meanwhile, welcome back. It's good to see you...

You will shortly find that life here is like a soap opera. Given about 10 minutes of cruising he net, you will be up to speed.

Since I use the computer only for ancient software and surfing, I got a cheap Win7 laptop at one of the local pawnshops (there are many!). It does what I need, and I don't have to pay Microsoft yet another licensing fee.
