What's your TV Package

Just curious about what typical DUers have setup for the TV packages. I remember the time ages ago, when I was extremely poor, that I survived with the 5-6 channels I could pickup on my rabbit ears (this was the late 80s-early 90s). I actually didn't miss having cable but I did rent alot of videos.

I'm curious as to what other DUers are doing for their TV so take the poll

With my antenna and the digital converter box I get 23 channels over the air. Since I watch about 3 hours of TV a week, that's more than enough.

Every time I think that more channels would be nice, I go to my in-laws, who have a premium cable package, and get reminded that (with the exception of a few channels I can count on one hand) I don't need to pay for 300 channels of crap.

I might consider cable if I could pick and choose channels, ala carte, but I'm not paying out the ass for 300 channels of crap.

2. Only reason I got cable was when I moved to Delaware

When I lived in Bucks County, PA I was away from the city enough that Rabbit Ears could pick up a few channels. Now that I'm in the city - I can't get crap from the ears and had to get a TV package.

We never watch teevee so this isn't a problem. I only have a teevee to watch the occasional DVD.

I can think of only one thing I would miss and that's local TV programming. I would like to be able to watch the election coverage and catch the news from time to time. I figured if I can find something strong enough to work in the city that could give me a few free channels - why not?

so we decided that our one splurge would be DISH for MSNBC, Current and Freespeech TV.
When we had just the over the air channels, we seldom watched TV except for some PBS.
We are far enough removed from the stations that with the new digital situation we would only be able to get PBS here, so cable of some sort was needed.

by our locally-owned phone company. We also have fiberoptic broadband internet from them. It's nice to have a local service that we can support.

10. No cable. So, I'm limited to what is on broadcast tv and online free content.

That being said, I find that high speed internet is changing the way I watch what I do watch -- many shows are now online shortly after they air. Much more convenient. And, some shows from the past or present have sites where some or all of the episodes are posted.

Don't hate me for this, but I've been working my way through the entire 15 years of 'South Park'

It's $18 some a month which includes DVD and Blu-Ray movies. I can watch the new releases on Blu-Ray and DVD and there are many older movies I can get from the box. Plus many tv shows.

When I was young, we had one station, TV-6.

Yeah i got "rabbit ears" for OTA.

I also watch HULU+ Netflix, Amazon on demand (for madmen) and am testing free trial of amazon prime.

Have not had cable for about two years and have not missed it one bit. Cable is only a good value if you enjoy live sports.
