Here’s a story in three parts:

1) Pro basketball player Donell “D.J.” Cooper used his girlfriend’s urine for a drug test.

2) Test revealed he was pregnant.

3) D.J. Is now suspended: https://trib.al/XOCzQVJ

Obviously the lab would be blinded to the source-person, but they must also be blinded to the source-league and run that test on all samples regardless of gender... seems like a waste of time and money, but I guess every once in a while it is useful. Very low odds of that though, or so I would have thought.

The samples are put in a rack and the machines do the rest.

It's often cheaper to test everything than do any presorting of samples.

Although I haven't worked in a medical lab for many years, I'll speculate the hCG test is simply included in the test panel for steroids and other similar substances banned in sports.
