https://www.wisn.com/article/lakefront-brewery-beer-recall-exploding-bottles/21943616Lakefront Brewery recalled their My Turn Junk beer, which is a "kettle sour with cherries and sakura" according to the label, because it's made with fresh cherries and the cherries' skins are coated with naturally-occurring wild yeast. This could cause overpressure in the bottle and initiate an explosion that will potentially injure innocent and non-innocent bystanders.
The brewery says the beer is safe to drink if it doesn't explode and take out the drinker in a shower of shrapnel first.
And so, because it is safe to drink but not safe to store...drink that shit up, chieftain.
Thus ends today's safety lecture.

(62,448 posts)back in the 1950s my dad tried his hand at home brewing. I was maybe 5 at the time.
He brewed up something like 10 gallons and put it into all the beer bottles he had saved for a long time. The bottles were capped and stored on a shelf in our below ground basement so the beer was a little cooler that the outside. Must have had a couple hundred bottles of beer.
It was around July 4th and hot as hell outside. We didn't have air conditioning - nobody did back then.
Well, as you can almost imagine, about midnight one night the bottles spontaneously started blowing up. It took off slowly but picked up quickly.
I don't think they all blew that night. It was sure exciting though.

(50,562 posts)During Prohibition my great-grandmother ran a hotel in Wallace, Idaho. Since she was in Wallace which has a long and proud history of prostitution (one of their most popular tourist attractions is a brothel museum), you can pretty much assume she was also a madam - but that's not the point of this tale. The cops assumed she was also in the speakeasy business but could never catch her at it...until one evening they stopped by to ask Granny if she had any beer and the bottles started exploding in the next room while the cops were standing there.
