Talking about cooking here, people
What is absolutely the most indispensable herb to your kitchen and/or taste when eating out, the one you'd be the MOST bummed if it disappeared?
Feel free to add your own in the comments ... only so many slots ... some others I can think of would be Cilantro (which I left off on purpose because I'd have no choice but to choose that one ... plus to me it's more of a food than a seasoning) and Mint.
This is a tough one, isn't it?

(5,434 posts)I put the pots on the deck for the summer and pretty much just use the herbs in my garden then. The sage, oregano, thyme, catnip, etc. are all perennial and the cilantro, basil, and parsley reseed themselves. The plants in pots don't grow as big but produce enough for winter.

(29,442 posts)I chose basil mostly because I have a basil plant, so I'm personally invested in another living creature.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)Not only is it critical for lots of Italian dishes, it's also critical for lots of SE Asian dishes, esp. Thai food (though they use different basil strains).

(33,643 posts)I also didn't include things like clove, coriander (cilantro seeds, at least in the US), curry, cumin, etc for the same reason.
Maybe I'll do spices in another poll though

I definitely think cilantro is though....
No cilantro what a cruel world that would be to my taste buds
Why you make me think about that
Go check my garden tomorrow make sure its still there now after an uneasy sleep tonight

(33,643 posts)No proper salsa? No cilantro on my street tacos? No cilantro in my Thai Food?
Are you kidding me?
There's just no way.
I figured if I put that one on it would skew the results too much ... although some people hate it (some people have a gene that makes cilantro taste like dish soap), it's just TOOOOO essential, so I chose to leave it off.
