...to get parallax on their target. Millions of years of evolution have evolved one of the most efficient hunting machines and this behavior is part of those adaptations. Same way a falcon rocks its head while looking for prey.

If you watch a bird of prey long enough, you will probably see it bob its head from side to side, move its head around in circles, or even turn its head almost completely upside down. This isn’t some kind of strange dance. Raptors do this to triangulate an object and better determine how far away it is.

9. I had a Siamese mix who triangulated his stalking

he would move toward a bird and then watch the bird as it flew away, then take an angled run toward the bird. He would repeat this until the bird was so tired he could jump it. It was fascinating to watch.
