question in the Washington Group. It looks fairly active, and I bet you'll get a lot of good information.

yes it rains a lot mainly from Mid Oct to Mid April...but when the sun it out it is beautiful. Housing and rent is quite high but if you live here live in the north end it is a much better part of town. We are 175 miles from Vancouver BC 35 from Seattle 40 from the mountains and 100 from the ocean. It is a quite progressive city. I ran a city initiative in 1989 that was progressive and we won with 64% of the vote and also ran for US Congress from the left and did quite well. rain a lot it has some high crime gang areas but it also has has lots of lovely neighborhoods of wood built houses from 1900-1950. Lots to do there. Great parks and Seattle is close. Its pricey but a real bargain comparerd to Seattle/Bellvue, etc.

Lovely place to live! Now, Tacoma is a big city (not my style), but similar in to the cost of living in Austin, Texas. I've looked at apartments in the area, and it is a bit pricey. At least $1100 for a decent 1 bedroom. Houses are about 25% more here than in Austin. If you shop carefully, food is about the same, some things are cheaper and some things are more expensive. Also, more for gasoline ($3.30 per gallon). It will cost about $300 or so to register your car for the first year, because they add a surcharge for new residents. However, public transportation is taken very seriously in this part of the country. I work in Tukwila. I drive to the park-n-ride(4 miles), park for free, get on a bus that takes me to the Puyallup train station, just in time to catch the northbound Sounder train.
It has already stopped to pick up people in Lakewood and Tacoma. It continues north and stops in Sumner, Auburn, Kent, Tukwila, and downtown Seattle. These trains run every 20 minutes during peak commute times in the morning and afternoon. The commute costs $8 per day, all transfers from bus/train included. They're also extending the Link light rail southward to meet up with the Link in Tacoma. When completed, the Link will take you from Tacoma Dome station to Downtown Seattle, with a stop at Sea-Tac Airport. There are also various bus systems throughout the area; Pierce Transit serves Tacoma and the rest of Pierce County. And if you have a bicycle, the buses and trains are bike-friendly.

Urban life? Ha! Not for me, although back in June I did take my grandchildren to the Tacoma Art Museum (fabulous!), the Museum of Glass (jaw-dropping!) and lunch at Zeeks Pizza (some of the best pizza EVER, but $$$).

Forget urban life, check out the many National Parks in your backyard. Mt. Rainier, Olympic, North Cascades, Mt. St. Helens, Crater Lake. Mountains? Yes! Hiking trails and campsites? Yes! Back roads and trails to bicycle? Yes! And our dry season runs from May to September. And no humidity! (thank you Jesus!) And rivers and lakes to kayak. Ferries to ride, to exotic islands where you can watch WHALES!

What are you waiting for?

9. Tacoma is south of Seattle

Much south of Seattle has higher crime but is less expensive than Seattle proper or the Eastside suburbs.

I moved from Missouri to Mill Creek which is north of Seattle, 2 1/2 years ago... great decision! I looked really hard in the south but that’s where all the GOPers are You get in any rural area here and there’s GOP humpers.

I don’t know about tacoma ‘s job market but Washington state has a $12 minimum wage- Seattle city has a $15 minimum wage.

Do you already have work?
do you already have a place to stay?
