Warren's clothes. So I'll come here to say that I just noticed that Nancy Pelosi always wears jewel necklines. Warren always wears slacks and a long sweater or short jacket. Hillary always wore pantsuits. Do you think that women who aspire to high political positions need to adopt "a look?"

They gotta do what they gotta do.
That said people pretty much don't talk about how male politicians dress.

(68,436 posts)are boxy, baggy, and the pants are too long, and his ties are too long, too. Oh, and his tux was a disaster! And remember his lumpy, ill-fitting overcoat, and he wears lifts in his shoes.
Mike Pence looks silly in a bomber jacket. W wore socks & boots with the Presidential seal, and was once photographed wearing Crocs.
Yes, male politicians' clothes are sometimes discussed, but since they do have a standard uniform (a suit & tie), there is simply less to discuss.
I am more concerned with the way women are criticized for not being "likable," or for being " shrill" or "schoolmarmish."

(2,899 posts)Among the many other republican lies the media were stenographer for, was the one that Naomi Wolf taught Gore how to dress and be an alpha male.
It was right up there with the four button suit.
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh030703.shtml
HENNEBERGER: Contradicting reports from within the Gore camp, [Wolf] also said she had not been telling [Gore] how to dress, either: not a single fashion tip, or even so much as a Nice tie, Mr. Vice President.
She offered a similar denial on This Week. Gore also denied the point, saying his wife picked out his clothing. According to Wolf, the pleasing tale about those earth tones hadalas!simply been false.
But Wolfs denial had no effect on the spreading story. The tale that Naomi Wolf told Gore to wear earth tones was being flogged throughout the press. Pundits simply loved the tale, which let them recite a favorite pointAl Gore doesnt know who he is. One pundit after another recited the highly pleasing point. As well see, Wolfs denial was almost never mentioned as one reporter after another recited the earth tones as fact.
Just as the media ridiculed Clinton's pantsuits; if Warren gets the nomination her wardrobe choices will be ridiculed. Its an old script that goes at least as far back as election 2000.

(68,436 posts)discussed. The fact that they mostly wear the suit & the uniform is the main reason their clothing doesn't get discussed more.

(18,690 posts)She wanted clothing that traveled well and you could put on in three minutes. I may have this wrong, but when she was asked about her clothing style she said: "Because how long do you think it took me to get dressed this morning? Three minutes." That was her reasoning.
Maybe you got slammed because this has come up before. It seems interesting to me, because we all want to know how to save time. I wish my sisters had dressed like that in high school so I could have had more time in the bathroom, but that's another story.
As for men, I know this is corny, but I always liked the way David Cameron dressed. He wore checkered shirts and interesting ties. I tried to find out who made them but never could.

i always felt sorry for michelle. maybe she eventually enjoyed it, but a friend of hers told me that dressing up was the worst part of the whole thing. she preferred jeans and tees.

(27,633 posts)Just like I have a certain wardrobe that fits my personality and activities and what I'm comfortable wearing.. Not sure what adopt a look means. They are what they are. I don't want my candidates to "adopt a look". Let them be themselves. I care more about their positions and how they communicate to the public.

(60,161 posts)and makes no apologies for it, because it is fast and easy. The only thing she changes out is her jacket, has several colors, and 3/4 sleeves.
She also does a no muss, no fuss hair style, wears no watches/rings. Nothing to distract the eye when watching her, all attention goes to her face and what she is saying.
I really get her,. She cuts thru the bullshit, a rare quality, she's very intelligent, perceptive, and practical.
She reminds me of Robert Kennedy.
Last selling point, for me at least...she has a Golden Retriever.
People lucky enough to have lived with a Golden immediately understand members of their "tribe".
So, yes, she has a definite style, and I get it.

(10,943 posts)... the three you mentioned have different styles. I think they all work... for the three individual woman. Women have much more latitude. Men usually get stuck with the dark suit and tie. The tie can show some different style... men do try to change "the look" but need to try harder, I think. I'm sick of the tie... I'd like to see it become rare.

(12,827 posts)With that said, that is not what happens today. Young people and many in middle age do not see the need for suits, or formal business wear. I think when the Senator is in a debate or if she is elected you will see a much more formal look. Campaigning is a bear, no rest for the weary. I don't see people holding that against any of them.
Interesting that this is being brought up about the older female candidate. Kamala Harris dresses casually most of the time on the trail. I take issue with the way Beto dresses from time to time and then remember that Bobby Kennedy did the same.
I think she and the others are doing fine. If they show up to make their speech at the convention the way they dress on the trail I'll have an issue for sure.
