Renee Zellwiger as Judy Garland....O.M.G......

I saw this movie today with some friends. Renee's performance was one of the most transformative I've ever seen. Whenever I see a an actor or actress that creates this kind of impact, hear a song that moves me to tears, or see a piece of art that takes me to another place, I become inspired in ways that can't be articulated so I won't try. I just wanted to give my input/review to folks who are wondering about this picture.....

I have really enjoyed seeing Renee in many films, including her roles in Bridget Jones and Jerry Maguire.

I loved her in Jerry Maguire but never saw any of the Bridget Jones pictures. IMHO her performance was astounding.

Some film critics on local npr station were discussing the it, and while they said the movie itself was ok, they raved about Zellwiger's performance. One commented on how even her body movements, like the movement of her shoulders and how she carried herself was amazingly spot on.

3. Oscar season is just ahead. She'll be one of this year's contenders, for sure.

Lots of buzz about this one. Hope it doesn’t peak too early, for her sake, anyway.

15. I don't think I'd consider it a biopic....(****Possible spoiler below*****)

It takes place in 1969 (the last year of her life) when she was performing in London. However, there are some flashbacks of when she was performing as a child star....

6. She was good. But script was weak.

They had to tell us and show us repeatedly that she was addicted to pills and alcohol and had been abused by the entertainment industry. We got it.
But that’s ALL it was about.
Barely showed Liza and did not go into that relationship or with any others except one husband briefly.
It was a one trick pony.
But, yes, Zelweiger gave an outstanding performance. Shame the writers didn’t.

and are expecting a biopic they'd possibly have a different reaction than I did. I went in knowing that it was about the last year of her life when she was in London in 1969. I'm glad you were able to at least appreciate her performance but I totally get where you're coming from....

8. I'm eager to see the movie. I saw Judy perform live at the Baltimore Civic Center in 1968

(January). It was the saddest thing I've ever seen. She could barely stand, and never did get around to singing anything. She was on the bill with Tony Bennett and Woody Allen. Judy's condition was later attributed to food poisoning. Plus, I've always been a big fan of Renee Zellwiger.

Thanks for posting the review, upthevibe.

Obviously, the movie is definitely not a "feel good." It's a spot on snapshot of the last year of her life in 1969. We went to a Sunday showing in the middle of the afternoon on a gorgeous day in Long Beach and the place was packed.

and something about her performance really struck me. I haven't liked her in much after that. There is something special about her, not sure what.
