I've used it a few times - it works. Initech Jun 2012 #1
It's actually more "light rail" than subway. CaliforniaPeggy Jun 2012 #2

MTA is expanding the gold line to go west of downtown, there's an orange line (non rail) that connects to the valley, and the purple line is under constitution that will go to Venice Beach and Santa Monica. It's a work in progress - IMO but they really need more options to connect Riverside and San Bernardino to downtown before it's perfected.

It does have subway parts of course, but there are also parts that are at grade level, and parts above.

And yes people do take it! I don't know the numbers, but last week when I rode it to downtown LA for jury duty, parts of it were very crowded.

It is good, and we should have had it years ago.

It's slow, but there are many stops.

It's a lot easier to get downtown this way than it is by driving!

Beats driving and unlike rush hour traffic it means trips across town are generally on time. We should have started long ago and we still need to build more. There is a massive gap in the system in that there is no line parallel to the 405 Freeway. If a second trunk line were ever to built (there are no plans at this time) it would be an excellent system.
