Either by applying for a job or retiring to another country. Where did you end up and how was the process? Do you regret it or are you enjoying the change? What made you move?

Sigh.

(14,732 posts)(aside from a 4-year stint in Ecuador) for 25 years. I think it was the best decision of my life. It's not an easy thing to do, and you have to be prepared to be very flexible and open in many of your beliefs but if you can do that it's worth it 1000 times over.

(31,381 posts)He moved because he met the man of his dreams while he was there doing a summer course towards his Masters degree. They got married. He had been a French teacher here in the US. Grew up speaking German, so he's tri-lingual. He teaches in an international school in Lyon. Recently, he became a French citizen and now has a French passport. Loves living in Lyon. However, he is also divorced from his husband, but apparently is going to stay in Lyon. Still good friends with his ex.
I have another friend from college who has lived abroad with her husband most of their married life. She is also a teacher. She's lived in Japan, Georgia (formerly of the Soviet Union), Egypt, and is back in Japan again.
There is another DU'er, a la izquierda, who I think is in the process of moving to the Netherlands?
And of course there is DU'er DFW who has lived in Germany for many years. Married to a German woman and he travels all over Europe for his work and speaks many languages. He posts quite often.
