"Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" Comes to St. Paul, MN

So, my wife and I headed out yesterday afternoon to the Fitzgerald Theater here in St. Paul. Why? Well, she had bought tickets to see Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes do something there. For some reason, we were expecting just them to show up and chat about stuff.

Instead, we got to see the "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" movie, with Kevin and Jason there to introduce the film and answer questions after the titles. We're both big fans, despite our being incredibly ancient and boring. We've seen all of the movies that had Jay and Silent Bob in them, and weren't even stoned when we did. Loved 'em!

Somehow, the fact that the film would be showing skipped past our notice. Bonus! Anyhow, the very responsive audience looked like a perfect group of stoners, slackers, and aging B-movie fans. Kevin and Jason didn't disappoint, either.

The movie? Well, no Oscars will come from it, but we were more than entertained by the constant quotes from the earlier films, the appearance of just about everyone who was ever in a Kevin Smith film, and more. Less amusing was one audience member in our row, who got up three times during the movie, forcing us to stand to let her pass by. "Pee much? Rude or anything?"

Should you see this if it comes to your city? If you enjoyed "Clerks," "Chasing Amy" (Joey Lauren Adams has a cameo), "Mall Rats," etc., by all means. If not, well, probably not. "It's a Jersey thing. You wouldn't understand."

1. Smith got skinny! I know he was given crap about his weight on an airplane once. Maybe

that prompted him to lose weight.

BTW, I am 69, and I love his movies.

So, he has lost weight and changed his diet to try to prevent another one. He looks a lot better, I think.

I was thinking about being 50 years old when I saw the first of his movies. I'm a big B-movie fan and so is my wife, so it's not surprising that we saw it. However, we're always the elders in the audience at most of the ones we see. Yesterday afternoon was no exception. I think I saw one other person with white hair in the audience. On the other hand I also saw people with green, blue, and artificially bright red hair in the audience.

There were lots of theater people in the audience, too, along with assorted misfits, strange folks, and people you wouldn't expect to be fans, as well.

They brought their kids.

That’s what I told my partner when he dragged me to see the Glee Live Show.

My wife saw an announcement of it somewhere and immediately bought two seats. The Fitzgerald is a small theater, and the thing sold out very quickly. So, we were lucky to get seats. It was packed.

Apparently, the two are on a tour with the movie, doing events like the one we attended. I wasn't even aware that the movie existed, really, until we saw it.

The two characters have been part of most of Kevin Smith's films, probably to give Smith something on camera to do.

10. Well, if they're touring the movie then fan demand will result in a general release. I hope. Thanks!
